Hoselink’s US Campaign

Hoselink traveled from Australia to shoot their first US campaign in Portland. Over two days, we faced equipment issues from cameras to monitors to unsuccessful connection, and still with smiles on our faces, successfully captured the desired stills and motion. In this industry, we are problem-solvers, but the key is; how do you handle yourself and others around? Ultimately, the aim is to exceed client expectations and ensure their return for future projects, highlighted by a positive, collaborative atmosphere.

It’s always fun to work with new clients, their vision and personalities. So fingers crossed…

Trothe Wine 2024 Harvest

I absolutely dig the client who also becomes a friend and a colleague, along with his staff of people working hard to create and grow the business. Jeff Andrews at Trothe Wines is one of those people and clients.

It was the 3rd time I visited their vineyards, whom I was introduced to via the Seattle-based creative agency DoubleKnot back in 2021. I returned this fall to capture stills and motion of their new harvest, helping their luxury wine brand grow from its foundation to a profitable consumer product.

Throughout the 2.5 days I spent at the vineyards, I shot on 3 different still cameras (Canon R5C, PhaseOne XF with an IQ260 back and Leica Q2), two RED cameras (Komodo on gimbal system and Epic handheld), and one drone (DJI Mini 4 Pro). I shot natural light and Profoto strobes for portraits and accents on subjects, as well as tethered for product bottle shots. All-in-all, the diversity of mediums and imagery keeps my creativity spinning, an inexhaustible source following the light and creating the light when necessary. Motion edited by Sam McJunkin. New Garmin Marine work!

Garmin Marine GPSMAP16x3 in Italy

The GPSMAP16x3 chartplotter and a Garmin Marine reel. This was a treat to head to Italy and shoot around Portofino. An absolutely stunning location on beautiful boats with the Spanish based production company Let’s.film.

CamelBak Chronicles w/Oskar Blues Brewery

CamelBak approached me with this killer idea to shoot a outdoor lifestyle stills and motion campaign with a number of different brand collaborates. Without hesitation, I jumped onboard. So far with 4 projects under our belts, were looking to 2023 to bring on a new line of radical adventures and super cool talent.

With Oskar Blues Brewery one of the companies working with CamelBak, my team and I flew down to Austin, TX to meet with the all-too-stellar Producer/Creative Director Grace H.. We scouted, discovered and began a narrative about Matt – lead Cellar Manager at Oskar Blues and how he creates and assesses his product throughout a continuous brewing cycle and once off-duty ventures into the outdoor wild playgrounds with colleagues and friends to let loose and re-energize.

From the brewery grounds to the reservoirs of Austin, we see Matt let loose in his natural surroundings, all the while incorporating the CamelBak ChillBak to bring the necessary 24+ cold Dale’s Pale Ale beverages along the journey.

Challenge Seattle’s “I Can Do It” Campaign

Most people pay for this advice, via book or lecture. Most people never have the opportunity to pay for this advice, because it’s not readily available. When Zillow and ex-Washington governor Chris Gregoire called upon director Sam McJunkin and me to create a short film of 14 of Seattle’s top CEOs, we looked at each other and knew we would come out all the wiser.

In the end, we didn’t. Well maybe a little, but not really. I’d like to think I did… However, it was an awe-inspiring experience to spend up to an hour listening about who these individuals were as children and classmates, what they aspired towards as youth, and today what it is to be a leader at the top of their businesses.

The end goal; a short film directed towards elementary youth as part of Seattle’s Discover U week back in October of 2016. Sam and I have completed the project, interviewing CEOs from PSE, Nordstrom, Costco, REI, and others with the next step in making a short film intended for high school students to let them know that Seattle has their backs and they are ready to hire once their education is complete. This is Challenge Seattle, an initiative created by Chris Gregoire to help Seattle companies hire Seattle locals, brought up in the school system and inspired by these top CEOs.
